It's Not What You Think

It's what you do

The aim is not to escape life, but to return to it with greater strength, perspective, and intention.

We belong out there. Not in here. Modern life has a way of keeping us comfortable, distracted, and separated from who we really are.

The screens, the algorithms, commitments and convenience - they're pulling us away from something more primitive and purposeful.

Most of us know what we need to change. The problem is breaking the pattern and getting the ball rolling.

We remove you from your routine and reconnect you with your primitive self - so you can gain perspective on your life from the outside, and from deep within.

  • Reflect on what matters and what your guiding principles are
  • Learn through direct experience that you are capable of overcoming obstacles
  • Return with the clarity and self-belief to enforce changes you know you need to make

The three pillars

“There is a synergic feedback between the pursuit of mental health and physical health”
- Maslow

Body

The body is a tool to strengthen the mind

Physical challenge, voluntary discomfort, and earned self-belief - rooted in Stoic wisdom.

Mind

Mindfulness in action

Awareness, acceptance, and equanimity cultivated in demanding real-world conditions.

Nature

Connect with your primitive self

Discover who you are beneath the entrapments of modern life.

Matt Jarvis

Lead Facilitator

Matt Jarvis

I know how it feels to be lost. Disillusioned. Disconnected. Unsure of what comes next. I found my answers the hard way - putting in the literal miles across the moors and mountains, the metaphorical miles on the meditation cushion, and countless hours in books.

The wilderness, the silence, and the philosophy didn't just change how I think. It changed who I am.

That's why The Primitive Initiative exists. Because I found something out there that I couldn't find anywhere else - and I want to give others the chance to find it too.
